Seat
The story of Fiat goes back to a time before SEAT was established. It starts out with the Spanish government wanting a new Spanish automobile company to be started. Discussions were held with several manufacturers and finally they struck a deal with FIAT. In 1950, Socieded Espanola de Automoviles de Turismo S.A. (SEAT) was established. SEAT bought the contract between Fiat and the Spanish Government. In 1953 the SEAT 1400 was introduced. Four years later, they introduced the 600, which was their second vehicle. The demand for this car exceeded the supply. The car was so successful that 1320,000 were manufactured between 1957-1963. SEAT continued to introduce new cars. With all these new models, their 1,000,000 unit was produced by the end of the 1960’s.
SEAT was struggling by the end of the 1970’s. They had once been Spain’s most successful automobile manufacturer. Fiat would take over SEAT and the SEAT brand would no longer appear on any exports. SEAT would later regain control of their company. Eventually SEAT would begin working with Porsche on a car named Ibiza. SEAT knew if they were to survive they would need to form an agreement with another automobile company and Porsche was not an option. In time an agreement would be reached with VW. The Ibiza car was very successful.
The 90’s saw a time of rebirth for Seat. In fact, for the first time in 15 years, they earned a profit. Seat would become a sponsor of the Barcelona Olympics and their new Toledo car would be the official car of the games. SEAT was back on their way to success. In the years that have followed, they have continued to introduce many new cars. They redesigned the Ibiza and Toledo. Good things to come can be expected for and from SEAT.
Car insurance groups for the SEAT range of cars varies, but expect any car that you choose to have a car insurance group that is below the UK average car insurance group.
